Hotel playground design and installation for a luxury Caribbean resort
Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is one of the most iconic luxury resorts in Nassau, Bahamas — a destination that attracts families from across the Americas and beyond. When the hotel decided to create a dedicated kids play area, they needed something that matched the standard of everything else on the property. That’s where ACL Projects came in.
The challenge: a resort without a dry play area for kids
Grand Hyatt Baha Mar already had a water park. What it didn’t have was a year-round, dry playground where children could play freely — somewhere parents could relax knowing their kids were safe, entertained, and just a few steps away.
For a luxury family resort in the Bahamas, that gap matters. Families choose hotels based on what’s available for their children. A well-designed kids play area isn’t an amenity — it’s a commercial argument.
Our hotel playground installation: a custom 5-metre octopus as the centrepiece
ACL Projects designed the entire playground from scratch, specifically for this property. The centrepiece is a giant custom octopus, standing over 5 metres tall, built exclusively for Grand Hyatt Baha Mar. No catalogue product. No off-the-shelf structure. A one-of-a-kind design that became an instant landmark within the resort grounds.
Materials built for the Caribbean climate
The main structure is built in robinia wood — a hardwood that performs exceptionally well in tropical coastal environments. Unlike treated pine or standard timber, robinia naturally resists humidity, salt air, and intense sun without constant maintenance. All playground equipment supplied by ACL Projects meets the safety and quality standards required by IAAPA, the global association for the attractions industry, of which ACL Projects is an official member.
Complementary structures are built in galvanised steel, ensuring the full playground holds up to the heavy daily use a resort property demands.
Play equipment for ages 1 to 12
The playground was designed so siblings of different ages can share the same space. The installation includes:
- The central octopus structure with climbing elements and slides
- A rope net pyramid for climbing and motor development
- Additional play structures in galvanised steel
- Seating areas strategically positioned for parents to supervise comfortably
Why dry playgrounds matter for Caribbean resorts
A dry kids play area operates independently from the pool and water park schedule. Children can use it any time of day, without changing clothes, without queuing, without supervision constraints. For the hotel, this translates directly into longer on-property dwell time for families — and that’s good for F&B, spa, and casino revenue.
